Ner Tamid

Ner Tamid is a Hebrew phrase that means "eternal light". A synagogue saw the first Ner Tamid I made and reached out asking if I would make one for them. This is the lamp that burns continuously in front of the ark where the Torah is kept. I was honored and started sketching.

Look closely at the design and you’ll notice the shapes are inspired by the Hebrew alphabet.

Here is the final design in black and white. Exaggerated ‘Yud’s’ and an abstract Aleph make up the design all stemming from a central focal point.

Most of the design was cut out with a CNC router but the smaller detail parts were cut by hand, either with a drill or coping saw. Epoxy was tinted then poured to fill the shapes.

This was made from one large piece of walnut.
