Hebrew Wood Carving
I chose this beautiful piece of wood for the guests at Bat Mitzvah to sign, before shipping this to the client I carved in the tree of life with the young woman’s Hebrew name and coated it with gold leaf. I also inlayed two bow tie joints to ensure the wood will last for many years.
There were two cracks in the wood which I braced with butterfly joints in this pice of wood. To see the process of the joinery and the carving of the tree of live look through the scrolling images below. Most of the letter carving in this piece is created in a traditional way, but the Hebrew was carved by removing all the material around the letters and leaving the Hebrew characters with a raised appearance. I then coated them with gold leaf to have them stand out when guests at the synagogue sign in to show they attended this important life event of Bat Mitzvah.
