Bringing in the Light

Blessed are You, Lord our G‑d, Ruler of the universe, who has sanctified us with Your commandments, and commanded us to kindle the light of the Shabbat.

The Windthrow Team knew instinctively that the Shabbat candlesticks were the perfect next piece to add to our modern, hand-crafted, fine art Judaica collection.

Lighting Shabbat candles on Friday before sundown signifies ushering peace into your home. This is the first prayer to welcome Shabbat and the last bit of work done before the day of rest. Lighting the match creates fire, that fire is given to two candles, and the light continues to shine bright as the sun goes down. The tradition tells us to gather the light of Shabbat in with three waves of the hand, drawing the light towards ones body. This step brings warmth to you and your home.

The Neshama Shabbat Candlesticks were created to amplify the warmth and ease this act represents. The candlesticks are crafted with walnut & brass. The walnut draws in warmth while the brass reflects it back to you.

When I bring in the light, I breath with it. Three breaths sets my week apart. Three breaths, three gathers, three moments to start Shabbat. Traditions can sometimes be silly or stale. This one has always felt needed, important, and heavy to me. I think of the light from my week that I want to take forward into Shabbat, and I consider the ways I can spread light to others during the next week.

May these candlesticks bring light, joy, warmth, care, and ease into your Shabbat for years to come.
